Travis Pastrana will lead the Subaru team in the first series of Nitro RX championships. Quadruple rallycross champion and F1 / NASCAR veteran Scott Speed ââwill join him. The two athletes will compete in 600 horsepower WRX STI rallycross cars prepared by Vermont SportsCar, a technical partner of Subaru.
âRight from the start, the Nitro Rallycross was always designed to be a thrill,â said Pastrana. âWhen I came back to rallying full time with Subaru last year, one of my big goals was to bring this idea of ââwhat rallycross could be in America to reality. A lot has changed in the world since then, but now all the pieces are in place for us to be able to put on an amazing show and amazing races! I know I’ll have my hands full with the drivers and teams we’ve put together, but between me and Scott I’m confident we can win another rallycross championship for Subaru.
All events are a two-day format consisting of solo qualifiers and day one battle installments. The second day consists of several rounds, a semi-final, a last-chance qualification and the final. Throughout the tournament, teams will get a certain number of points for first (50), second (45) and third (40) places. The team with the most points at the end of the last event will win the championship.
After the first weekend, the drivers will only have one week to prepare for the next series of races. However, there will then be a six week hiatus until the start of the third event. The remaining two races will follow in the following week periods. Here is the full program:
- 24-25 Sep: Utah Motorsports Campus (Salt Lake City, Utah)
- October 2-3: ERX Fleet (Minneapolis, Minnesota)
- November 13-14: Wild Horse Pass Motorsport Park (Phoenix, Arizona)
- November 20-21: Glen Helen Raceway (San Bernardino, CA)
- December 4 and 5: The FIRM (Starke, Florida)
