John Paul Nenger yesterday won the senior karting championship at the 2021 Festival of Motorsport in Nigeria held in Central Park, Abuja

By virtue of the two-day championship triumph that ends today, Nenger will represent the country in the Senior Karting category at the FIA ​​Motorsport Games in Marseille, France in October.

The president of the Automobile and Touring Club of Nigeria (ATCN), which organized the competition, Ishaku Bamaiyi, said the 14-year-old student from Capital Science Academy, Kuje, Abuja will be trained to take on other competitors at the World FIA Motorsport Games.

“Since he’s the winner, we’ll be training him on the pro kart, which is a higher level of rental carts, which you know can shift and go over 100 km / h and go faster. than the others, ”Bamaiyi said.

Speaking to reporters after his feat, Nenger said the victory made him happy, excited and had multiple feelings.

He said the national championship conditions were fine for him as the race track was nice, smooth and unobstructed.

“I will be well prepared for the FIA ​​Motorsport Games. I intend to settle small from here, I hope to have a chance by my arrival in France and from there, I will find my rhythm ”.

ATCN Sports Secretary General Terlumun Ikya said the motorsport festival features collective disciplines used to select the country’s representatives in various categories.

The six categories are Karting Sprint Junior, Karting Sprint Senior, Karting Endurance Team, Karting Slalom, Auto Slalom and Digital Games.

He said ATCN is trying to create a Racing Nigeria Motorsport team which will be a permanent racing club in the country.

Club president Bamaiyi also listed the benefits the country’s participation in international events will bring.

He said the country would take advantage of this exposure in a way that is beyond imagination, including ensuring that drivers become drivers in Formula 1, Formula E and the World Rally Championship, as well as participate in many other events.

“As we speak, we have a Nigerian, who would lead in the junior category. He is currently competing in the FIA ​​Captain Trophy Academy 2021. His name is Phillip Gana. From there, if he is able to perform in the next five or six years, we are talking about Formula 1.

“He did Germany, he is now training to do Italy, then the last place will be Sweden in September,” said Bamaiyi.
